The Gypsy Jewels are a troupe of young dancers from schools
across Banffshire (25 boys and girls) . They perform a range of dancing
styles including Arabic, Indian, Gypsy, and African Gumboot. The Gypsy
Jewels are excited to be dancing at this year's Boat Festival and are
practicing their choreographies in order to give a polished performance. The
costumes are colorful and the dancers enjoyment is infectious: they also
love to invite others to join in with their last dance.
The troupe was formed after the students received tuition from dance
teacher Tina Gordon through the Active Schools Programme. The result was a
continuing sustainable after schools project. The enthusiastic youngsters
found their common interest bought them together allowing them to support
each other.
The Gypsy Jewels hope to encourage other young people to take up dancing.
