a world of crafts

| Following the successful refreshing of the
demonstrator programme last year, we have further reviewed and
considerably expanded the programme to create a "World of Crafts" in 2009.
This will take place at a number of locations around the festival,
including:

An exhibition including a wide range of traditional craft producers who
will be selling their work |
The Living Tradition Marquee by the Salmon Bothy (open Thursday to
Sunday)
Supported by the
Moray Firth Partnership, "Living Traditions" features a range of craft
demonstrators, providing "come and try" sessions for all ages. This
includes knitting, weaving, spinning, knot tying, creel making, net
making, felting, lace making, patchwork and much more. See daily programme

Upstairs at the Bothy (open Thursday to Sunday)
This hugely popular venue will feature a programme of performances and
workshops. For details

Initial events will include a knitting and singing workshop with
Norman
Kennedy and, on Sunday afternoon, the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire,
Mrs
Clare Russell JP will be signing her new book "I Love Banffshire"
Sally J Collins will be running workshops based around her work on
illustrating the Hamish McHaggis books. More ...
Stuart B Campbell will be reading some of his poems based on the theme "The Persistence of the Song".

The Old Harbour (open Thursday to Sunday)
The accent around the Old Harbour will be on maritime crafts and
skills. These will include a unique opportunity to see and talk to a wide
range of fascinating demonstrators including Norwegians
Bjorn Arve,
Johanne Tvedten and Helen Petersen, rigging expert Nigel Gray, traditional
'Boaties' maker Stephen Ritchie, basket maker Tim Palmer, and the Swedish
Ravinis brothers who will be helping with the
Portsoy Faering Project team
with their restoration of a salmon coble.
Other skills on show at the Old Harbour area will include pot throwing,
wood turning, cooperage and the blacksmith's arts.
